As you may know the following Harborough Scouts have been selected as members of the Leicestershire Contingent for the World Scout Jamboree to Sweden in 2011:
Matt Hughes (Inclined Explorer)
Stuart Black (Inclined Explorer)
Erin Billington (Inclined Explorer)
Barnaby Coupe (Inclined Explorer)
George Billington (Inclined Explorer)
Tom Worthington (Inclined Explorer)
Eleanor Rhodes (Foxton scout)
Sebastian Coupe (Kibworth scout)
Nick Roberts (Glen scout)
This is great honour and privilege for them and us – to have so many scouts from Harborough able to go.
Each of them has to pay £1,950 to secure their place. That’s a total of £17,550 for the 9 of them!
As these young ambassadors for Harborough District will all be explorers at the time of the Jamboree, I arranged a meeting with them and their parents to make a fund raising plan of action to help them reach the target. We are looking for all scout sections across the district to support their efforts and in particular at this time through our January Jewellery Recycling.
We have organised this through jewelleryrecycling.org. Their details fell out of the Scout magazine. We simply hand out envelopes for members to take home and fill with unwanted (or even broken) jewellery and watches. We send this on to jewelleryrecycling.org and they sort through it to establish a value and send us back a cheque. So very similar to those plastic bags we get through the door to fill with unwanted clothes. The envelopes went out the Inclined Explorer Unit last night. Next week we want to extend that to include all sections within Fleckney, Kibworth, Foxton and Glen – where the contingent members have some links. One of the contingent members should be in touch with you to arrange.
If you are a Bowden or 3rd Harborough Leader and you would be willing to hand out our envelopes to your section, I would be very pleased to arrange delivery and collection. Please email Webmaster
Thank you for reading and we look forward to your support.
PS Inclined is the new name for our Explorer Unit – to distinguish it from the other one that runs on Wednesdays
