Over the course of the day 82 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and their parents completed laps of the 7 mile route around the reservoir. All had been pledged sponsorship to complete a number of laps or just to take part.
The route around the reservoir is a mix of country paths and tarmac pavements. Kezia and Jacob scouts from 3rd Market Harborough completed 4 laps on their bikes. Ruth, beaver leader at Fleckney ran one lap, while cub Harvey walked round and picnicked on the way. Whatever way they choose was hot work in the blazing sunshine.
Lead volunteer, Debbie Billington explained that the event had been well attended and a great success. “The support from the young people and especially their parents’ has been brilliant. It was billed as a family event and its been just that. The parents who often struggle to be involved have been part of our adventure today. ”
In total the 82 participants completed 109 circuits of the 7 mile route, totalling 763 miles. The pledges which will be shared between Market Harborough District, to support our World Scout Jamboree Contingent to West Virginia, USA next summer and the supporting Groups. All in all, it means we can provide an even bigger adventure for more young people.
