Report:
This year’s competition was HOT again!
Not just the weather which was gorgeous.
The standard of camping was yet again exceptionally high across all 12 teams.
The sites were just about right this year to accommodate all their tents, so each Patrol had a very equal field as they all had similar kit ( 1 Colman shelter and two or three sleeping tents).
The theme for the menus was “Healthy Eating”, so most teams shied away from complex meals but they made them wholesome and very tasty!
Some competitors came up with some interesting themes. A challenge was to build a gadget with a set amount of equipment to gain points, this was then rebuilt as a Catapult for Adam’s Challenge.
The sites were generally kept clear and tidy throughout the weekend and the recycling rules strictly adhered to, leaving the site just as clean as when we arrived. The kitchen hygiene and food storage was much better than in previous years, apart from a little hint to ensure the preservation of their raw meat. Their behaviour was courteous and sensible and their enthusiasm for the challenges boundless, so that the differential in points was minimal right up to Flag-down. Some patrols improved their scores so well during the camp that it was difficult to judge who would merit The Turner Trophy for the Patrol that makes the most improvement during the camp. There has to be a winner but all the teams are a credit to their Troop and Leaders and also to Scouting in Market Harborough District.
