Report:

This years competition was HOT again! We set up in a heatwave and finished just slightly cooler with enough breeze to bring down a large tree branch in the woods.

The standard of camping at this years competition was exceptionally high again. Some patrols took advantage of the extra adult help offered due to the extreme temperature, but this did not alter the fact that every camper walked away with a camping standard badge.

Each patrol came up with some noteworthy devices to gain points, from inventive or complex menu items to novel themes. Overall the tent pitching was equal to the previous high standards and kitchen hygiene and food storage was much improved from previous years, something much required in the heat!

The campfire was a great example of the camaraderie and teamwork shown not only between groups, but across the district and the scouting family as the Guides and Brownies joined the site for the evening to make a memorable night.

Sites were generally kept clear and tidy throughout the weekend and the recycling rules strictly adhered to, leaving the site just as clean as when we arrived. The behaviour was courteous and sensible and the enthusiasm for the challenges of the weekend were boundless. That caused the differential in points to be absolutely minimal right up to Flag-down on Sunday, with the judges left to make the difficult decision on how to challenge and split the teams for each place! But there has to be a winner, but especially this year, every team entered was exceptional.
